Letter to Gus Bilirakis

Dear Mr. Gus Bilirakis,

We share a number of beautiful things in common. Like you, I, Ioanna Lazarou, am a loyal child of beautiful Greece, who also calls America, the land of the free, home. I also share the noble values you both have fought heroically to defend throughout your career representing the good people of Florida in Congress. This is in addition to a deep and abiding love for our original fatherland, Greece.

The reason of this letter, that I write to you, as I have written to many other patriots and Philhellenes, over many years, is to save our homeland from the traitors. Greece needs all her children, at home and in the diaspora, to come to her aid. To fight for her cause and see her restored to the noble height she merits and once occupied. Writing to summon Philhellenes and Patriots to her aid is the way I feel I can best contribute to her cause. These people can talk and help this country, from the position they hold, as you have.

My heart and that of true Greeks everywhere weeps for the ravages our native homeland is forced to endure. You are a patriot and a true son of Greece. You are always close to the Greek community in Tarpon Springs, and you always are giving a helping hand to people in need. This encourages me to share these deep worries and concerns with you, about our country. I am fully confident, that you will put your power as a U.S. Representative, to find a solution to take back our country, as you know as a lawyer, it is unconstitutional all the treaties they signed. The Greek people never signed them, and Greece belongs ONLY to Greeks.

We may have two homelands, but the motherland must be free for us to return, along with our children and grandchildren. I will not mention the beauties of the Motherland, but I will mention all the problems that this country faces, and to prevent the genocide of our people.    

The migrant issue in Greece

Greece is currently staggering under the weight of excessive immigration. This puts a lot of strain on the economic and social fabric of our native land. These are negative effects, but even worse is the security threat a number of these migrants have begun to pose. This invasion is posing risks and problems, taking place in the country right now. Formerly beautiful islands, part of our proud native heritage, have transformed under the staggering migrant influx into now nearly unrecognizable hotbeds of crime and disorder. The lives of Greeks are not secure in these places.

Dear honorable, if Greeks cannot have peace even in their own islands, where else would they have it? Lesbos, Samos, Kos are fast becoming shadows of their former beautiful selves. Recently in Moria, migrants have been linked to bearing responsibility for the fires that started there. This is in addition to other allegations of vile crimes such as kids rape, drugs, and murder which are now rife in those areas. Jihadi presence has also been noted in Moria, Lesvos, among other places. These threats to Greek lives and culture cannot be allowed to continue unchecked in the land of Socrates and Plato, honorable. It is my fervent hope and desire that you aid Greece by using your political power and capacities to help her check this grievous issue.

The sellout of Greek identity in the Prespa agreement

I regret to inform you, that many of our own politicians have not represented the patriotic interests of Greece. One of the many issues that highlight this is the Prespa agreement. Years ago, they have appropriated elements of Greek identity, heritage, and history for their own uses. Products made in Skopje were been passed off as “Macedonian”. Nowadays, that agreement is the sellout of Macedonian identity, which is a subset of Greek identity, to a country that has no true Greek heritage or identity. A country that was allowed under the terms of that unpatriotic agreement, to call itself, officially, “North Macedonia”.

Dear honorable, this agreement does not do Greece honor. It is my fervent wish that you push for its reversal in favor of an agreement that is fairer and more respectful to Greece our native land.

The Nargono-Karabakh Conflict

This conflict between Armenia (who are as brothers and friends to us) and Azerbaijan (which is backed by Turkey, a notorious enemy of Greece), is one that demands Greek voices to speak out in support of Armenia. The conflict, which threatens the sovereignty of a friendly nation to us, and is orchestrated by one of Greece enemies, is one that should concern Greeks everywhere. It is common sense, that it is very possible, as soon as they finish with Armenia, Greece is the next target. I have created “The power of the pen” to create our army, though the letter to Patriots and Philhellenes. I urge you, dear honorable, to stand strong next to Armenia and use your political power, as I said already, to bring more attention to the plight of Armenia.

I would appreciate it very much if you help in giving the message in this letter a broader audience so it reaches more patriots and Philhellenes.. With your help, we shall be able to rally more of Greece children and those who love her to liberate our native land.

P.S. Επειδή, ως Έλληνες μιλάμε την Ελληνική γλώσσα, θα σας εξηγήσω γιατί αγωνίζομαι. Αγωνίζομαι γι’ αυτή την όμορφη πατρίδα μου, που έχω γεννηθεί εκεί, στα χώματα της έχω χτυπήσει τα γόνατα μου, και εξαιτίας της κρίσης, ήρθε η στιγμή να την απαρνηθώ. Όμως, όχι για μένα, αλλά για χάρη της οικογένειας μου…

Βέβαια, αυτή είναι μια άλλη ιστορία. Παρόλο που έφυγα, ποτέ δεν ξέχασα και από πολύ μακριά, προσπαθούσα πάντα να παλέψω να διαδώσω και να μεταλαμπαδεύσω τις γνώσεις μου για την Ελλάδα. Όπου έβλεπα κακώς κείμενα, πάλευα για την αλήθεια, και αυτό συνεχίζω να κάνω.

Αποφάσισα, λοιπόν, ότι δεν βοηθάει αρκετά την πατρίδα μου και τους Έλληνες να πηγαίνω και να μιλάω στους ανθέλληνες. Οι πιο πολλοί Έλληνες, δυστυχώς, ζούνε σ’ ένα συννεφάκι. Έτσι, σκέφτηκα ότι εκεί έξω, υπάρχουν πολλοί Φιλέλληνες, πολλοί πατριώτες, που αγαπούν την πατρίδα μου, και μέσα σε αυτούς επέλεξα και εσάς.
